The dawn of the 'AI investment' era
Upbit rolls out Pocket, official SDK and Upbit Skill in quick succession
An "AI investment" service that allows artificial intelligence to understand investors' intentions and autonomously trade digital assets has officially launched.
Industry observers say the era of genuine AI-driven investing — accessible to ordinary retail investors — has arrived.
Upbit, the virtual asset exchange operated by Dunamu, said Thursday it has been rolling out a series of tools in the first half of this year to build the foundation for an AI investment ecosystem: an official SDK (software development kit), "Upbit Skill" — an instruction set for AI agents — and a "Pocket" feature for segregated asset management.
Upbit launched its Pocket service June 1, targeting professional traders who use algorithmic trading and automated trading bots. The feature lets users divide and manage assets by purpose within a single account. Beyond the default "Main Pocket" provided upon registration, users can create up to five "Sub-Pockets" and operate each as a separate wallet tailored to a specific strategy.
The Main Pocket and Sub-Pockets are not separate registered accounts. They function as a kind of "virtual space" that logically partitions assets within a single authenticated account.
Sub-Pockets operate exclusively within the Upbit API environment and are not visible through the standard app or web interface. To prevent wash trading between pockets within the same account, users can enable a self-match prevention (SMP) setting when placing API orders.
"We have struck a balance between accounting transparency and market manipulation prevention while maximizing convenience for investors," an Upbit spokesperson said.
Alongside this, Upbit introduced the Upbit SDK and Upbit Skill in April and May, respectively.
Previously, developers had to manually implement authentication processes — including JSON Web Token (JWT) generation and request signing — to integrate with the API. The official SDK now handles those steps along with basic stability controls in one package.
The company said the SDK will be useful not only for professional developers but also for traders who actively leverage AI technology. It lets them build a customized trading environment with AI assistance without writing code themselves.
Through Upbit Skill, investors can build their own AI investment assistant. Once installed, users can issue commands in plain language — such as "Check my balance" or "Create a market buy order for 10,000 won ($7) of bitcoin" — and the AI interprets the instruction, translates it into executable commands, and carries out the full trading workflow from market price lookup to order execution.
"In the past, people had to learn the language of machines — now we have entered an era where AI understands human intent and executes trades on their behalf," said an industry official in the digital asset sector. "This kind of infrastructure expansion will accelerate the entry of institutional and quantitative investors while raising the level of retail investors to that of professional traders."
