Korea Maritime and Ocean University holds first marine cluster heads' council of 2026

Korea Maritime and Ocean University held the first Marine Cluster Heads' Council of 2026 at its main administration building on Wednesday. The council was convened to discuss ways to promote the shared growth of the marine cluster in the Dongsam Innovation District.

The gathering brought together university President Ryu Dong-geun, heads of industry, academic and research institutions, and officials from the Busan city government and the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries. Member institutions agreed to move beyond simple exchanges and build a standing cooperation framework while strengthening their working-level networks. Participants also explored ways to ensure the successful staging of the Third Marine Cluster Festival, which is intended to serve as a platform for promoting the maritime sector.

The council further agreed to deepen policy coordination with the Busan city government and the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries to mount a joint response to key policy issues from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and to address local concerns more swiftly.

Ryu, who took on the role of inaugural chair of the marine cluster this year, said the university would "solidify the marine cluster's working-level consultation network so that each institution can draw on its expertise to contribute to the development of the local community and the maritime industry."
