Two decades after pioneering thematic ETFs in Korea, TIGER expands investment reach
Global ETF net assets reach 428 trillion won; firm ranks 11th worldwide
Marathon and coffee-truck events set for Friday to mark anniversary
Mirae Asset Global Investments announced Thursday that its TIGER exchange-traded fund (ETF) has reached its 20th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, the firm will hold a "TIGER ETF 20th Anniversary Marathon" and a "TIGER ETF Coffee Truck Event" at Peace Plaza in Seoul's Sangam World Cup Park on Friday. The events are designed to look back on two decades of investing alongside clients and to reaffirm the firm's commitment to accompanying investors on their long-term journeys ahead.
Mirae Asset Global Investments said it plans to offer investors differentiated investment solutions by drawing on the ETF management expertise and global network it has built over the past 20 years.
The firm pioneered Korea's thematic ETF market in June 2006 when it listed the TIGER Semiconductor ETF and the TIGER Bank ETF on the Korea Exchange.
It has since broadened its market presence by leading with a diverse lineup of semiconductor ETFs. The flagship TIGER Semiconductor TOP10 ETF recorded net assets of 12 trillion won ($7.8 billion) as of Wednesday, making it the largest semiconductor ETF in Korea.
The firm has also expanded investor options with products such as the TIGER Semiconductor TOP10 Covered Call Active ETF, which simultaneously pursues growth and monthly dividends.
Mirae Asset has also built a strong presence in the US benchmark index ETF market. The TIGER US S&P500 ETF, with net assets of 19 trillion won, is the largest S&P500 ETF in Asia. It has established itself as a leading long-term investment product through pension accounts, drawing a steady flow of funds from retail investors.
Mirae Asset Group Chairman Park Hyun-joo expanded the firm's global ETF business following the acquisition of US ETF manager Global X, propelling the firm to 11th place globally by ETF net assets. The firm currently manages a combined 428 trillion won in ETF net assets across major markets including the United States, Japan, Canada, Australia and Europe.
"If the past 20 years were about expanding the possibilities of Mirae Asset's ETF business, the next 20 years will be about taking a further leap as a global investment platform that invests in innovative companies and assets around the world," said Lee Jun-yong, vice chairman of Mirae Asset Global Investments. "We are deeply grateful to all the investors who have been with us, and we will continue to treat their trust as our most important asset as we deliver differentiated investment solutions."
