8th Ulju-gun Council wraps up four-year legislative term

The 8th Ulju-gun Council, chaired by Speaker Choi Gil-young, concluded its four-year legislative term on Thursday with the second plenary session of the 245th extraordinary session at the council chamber.

The council launched in July 2022 and held 34 sessions in total — eight regular and 26 extraordinary — logging 403 days of legislative activity over its term.

It processed 556 bills in total, including 129 ordinances and amendments initiated by council members, as well as budget and settlement proposals. Lawmakers also raised 24 oral questions, submitted 84 written questions and delivered 25 five-minute open-floor speeches to propose policy alternatives on key issues.

Annual administrative audits produced 917 findings in total, including 227 corrective demands and 690 recommendations.

Also notable was a reform — the first of its kind in the Ulsan region — that moved administrative audits from the second regular session to the first, improving audit accuracy and accountability. The change also eased the workload that had previously built up when year-end audits overlapped with budget deliberations, boosting the overall efficiency of both legislative and county administration.

In his closing remarks, Speaker Choi said the past four years had been "a continuous series of responsibilities and deliberations for the residents." He thanked the public for their trust and support, and expressed hope that the incoming 9th-term council would work even harder for Ulju's development and the well-being of its residents.
