A man in his 60s with alcohol addiction was placed under emergency psychiatric hospitalization after returning to a cafe with a sickle following a confrontation over smoking.
According to Eumseong Police Station in North Chungcheong Province, the man, identified only as A, went to a cafe in Samseong-myeon, Eumseong-gun, at around 10:08 a.m. on June 24 armed with a sickle and threatened two customers and the owner, saying he would kill them. He faces charges of aggravated intimidation.
A had been heavily intoxicated when the owner stopped him from smoking inside the cafe, and he became disruptive. After the owner called police, A left but returned with a sickle, apparently out of resentment over the police response, investigators said. He was subsequently placed under emergency hospitalization.
