Ahn Byeong-yun, the incoming chief of Yecheon-gun in North Gyeongsang Province, is under police investigation on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.
The North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency said Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit 2 conducted a search and seizure of Ahn's office on June 25 and continued the operation into a second day.
Police found that Ahn is suspected of providing cash or gifts to a journalist in his constituency ahead of the 9th nationwide local elections.
Police questioned one journalist at the Yecheon Police Station who claimed to have received the money.
Ahn has denied all charges.
