Ministry selects 14 projects, 1,756 units through first-half specialized housing competition
Ministry says initiative will deliver housing alongside care and employment services
Youth-targeted public rental housing is set to be built on the Sungkyunkwan University baseball field site in Dobong-gu, Seoul, and at the Gwangmyeong Tax Office. New specialized housing units for child-rearing families and the elderly are also planned for Incheon, Busan, North Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Province.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced Tuesday it had selected 14 specialized housing projects totaling 1,756 units nationwide through a first-half 2026 competition to supply tailored public rental housing for youth, newlyweds, the elderly and other groups at different life stages. The selected projects include seven locally proposed specialized housing projects (581 units), four youth-targeted housing projects (800 units), one elderly welfare housing project (100 units) and two employment-linked support housing projects (275 units).
Specialized housing projects provide public rental units that combine living spaces, care facilities, shared offices and other tailored amenities with customized residential services for youth, the elderly, newlyweds and other target groups. Projects selected through the competition will receive financial support, including loans and investments from the Housing and Urban Fund.
Starting this year, the government will provide installation cost subsidies for specialized facilities at child-rearing-friendly housing platforms and youth-targeted housing, a move expected to raise the quality of residential services and tenant satisfaction. Each child-rearing-friendly platform will receive 7.64 billion won ($4.95 million) per site, while each youth-targeted facility will receive 480 million won.
This round also includes two projects that follow up on the government's housing supply expansion plan: a 391-unit youth-targeted housing development on the Sungkyunkwan University baseball field site, and a 113-unit youth-targeted housing project as part of a mixed-use redevelopment of the aging Gwangmyeong Tax Office building.
Among the locally proposed specialized housing projects, seven developments totaling 581 units are planned across Incheon, Busan, North Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Province. In Incheon's Geomdan new town, 80 units of child-rearing-friendly housing will be built for newlyweds. In the Yeongnam region, 200 units in Busan's Gangseo area, 50 units in Cheongsong, North Gyeongsang Province, and 30 units in Bonghwa, North Gyeongsang Province, will be developed alongside open-access child-care support facilities. In the Gangwon and Jeju regions, projects will deliver 84 units in Yeongwol, 100 units in Hoengseong and 61 units in Jeju. Taebaek will receive 100 units of elderly welfare housing.
Youth-targeted housing will total 800 units, with 220 units in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, and 56 units in Yuseong, Daejeon, in addition to the projects in Dobong-gu, Seoul, and Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
Employment-linked support housing will total 275 units, including 160 units in Boeun, North Chungcheong Province, and 115 units in Haman, South Gyeongsang Province.
The ministry said it plans to actively support administrative procedures — including approval of housing construction project plans — to ensure the smooth progress of the selected projects, and will systematically manage implementation through project briefings and customized consulting to sustain the continued expansion of specialized housing supply.
