Sinan-gun said Tuesday it had distributed the June installment of its rural basic income program.
The payments went to residents who had completed their applications by the end of May. Those who moved out of the county, died, were non-residents, or newly moved in and applied in May were excluded. However, newly arrived residents who applied in March but had their payments deferred received three months' worth — 600,000 won ($389) — in a lump-sum retroactive payment. The program covers residents who moved into the county after Oct. 20, 2025.
Each recipient receives 200,000 won per month, which can be spent using the "1004 Pass Card." Cards are available at the township or village office in the recipient's area of residence.
The card can be used at local community currency-affiliated merchants within the county, but large businesses with annual sales exceeding 3 billion won, as well as entertainment, gambling and currency-exchange establishments, are excluded. A combined monthly limit of 100,000 won also applies at Nonghyup Hanaro Mart locations, agricultural supply stores, gas stations and convenience stores.
Residents of township areas who use affiliated merchants in town areas are subject to the same combined monthly limit of 100,000 won across all town-area merchants.
A Sinan-gun official said new merchant registrations within the county had increased roughly 1.9 times compared to last year since the basic income pilot program launched, pointing to positive effects on the local economy. "We will continue to expand the range of accepted merchants to breathe vitality into the local economy and community," the official added.
