The Korea Billiards Federation has set its sights on winning medals across all disciplines at the world championships and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in the second half of this year.
The federation held a national team orientation Monday at the Olympic Parktel conference room in Seoul.
All 15 members of the national squad attended the event, marking the formal start of their campaign. The roster — selected through the federation's "Road to Doha 2030" project — includes Cho Myung-woo (Seoul Metropolitan Government), Heo Jeong-han (South Gyeongsang Billiards Federation), Seo Seo-a (Incheon Metropolitan City Sports Council) and Lee Dae-gyu (Seoul Metropolitan Government).
The orientation was designed to brief athletes on how the national team program will be run and what support they can expect, and to help them perform at their best on the international stage.
The squad will focus on major international competitions in the second half of this year as its near-term goals. Those targets include the world championships in four disciplines — carom, pocket billiards, snooker and English billiards — and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia in December, with the team aiming to reach the medal podium in every event.
Federation President Seo Su-gil attended the event, officially commissioning the national team and offering words of encouragement. Seo presented each athlete with a national team certificate and a team kit.
Meanwhile, the federation revived its national team trials for the first time in 16 years under the Road to Doha 2030 project. The trials were held in April across the four disciplines — carom, pocket billiards, snooker and English billiards — from which the final 15-member squad was selected.
