PPP spokesperson, YouTuber referred to prosecutors over disparaging remarks about lawmaker Kim Ye-ji

People Power Party Media Spokesperson Park Min-young and YouTuber Gamdongran — whose real name is Kim So-eun — have been referred to prosecutors over disparaging remarks they made about PPP lawmaker Kim Ye-ji, who is visually impaired. The remarks included comments such as "privileged except for her eyes being impaired" and "lucky to be disabled."

According to the Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station, police referred both individuals to prosecutors without detention on June 29 on charges of defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, insult, and violation of the Act on the Prohibition of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities and Remedies Therefor — specifically the prohibition on harassment.

During a live broadcast on Gamdongran's YouTube channel in November last year, Park argued that Kim's nomination as a candidate had been improper, saying "there are too many disability quotas," "she is privileged except for her visual impairment," and "she takes consideration for granted." Park also called Kim "the biggest violator of party lines" and accused her of being "ungrateful."

Gamdongran made no effort to conceal her contempt for disabled women, saying Kim "should consider it a stroke of luck that she is disabled" and asking, "Why does she always claim she was wronged for being a woman?"

Following the broadcast, Kim filed a complaint against Park and others on defamation charges. Separately, a third party filed a complaint against both individuals on charges of violating the disability discrimination law and insult.
