Goryeong-gun's new chief vows to build 'a vibrant, youthful' county

Goryeong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province inaugurated Lee Nam-cheol as its 47th county chief on Tuesday, launching the ninth term of civilian-elected county governance with a ceremony at the Ureuk Hall of the Daegaya Culture Nuri complex.

The new term is not simply a continuation of the previous one, officials said, but a declaration to deliver tangible results that residents can feel in their daily lives — building on the foundation laid during the eighth term to complete what they call a "young and vigorous Goryeong."

"The county administration goal for the ninth term carries forward 'Young Goryeong! Vigorous Goryeong!' as it stands," Lee said. "We will secure continuity in governance and translate the foundation we have built into concrete achievements that residents can feel firsthand, completing a young and vigorous Goryeong."

To that end, the county has set seven major administrative priorities — including "A future drawn along the Nakdong River, the heart of Daegaya," "Youth's choice: a vibrant Goryeong," "A city that connects people and invites them to stay," and "Opening Goryeong with AI, an administration that connects people" — and broken them down into 22 implementation strategies to be pursued in phases.

In his inaugural address, Lee said: "If the four years of the eighth term were a time to lay the groundwork for a young Goryeong and set the stage for a new leap forward, the ninth term will be the time when we complete, together with our residents, a truly heart-stirring, youthful Goryeong — through achievements they can feel in practice."
