Gangnam District Mayor Delivers Reconstruction Approval in Person to Eunma Apartment Residents

Gangnam District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi visited Eunma Apartment on Wednesday to personally hand over the reconstruction project implementation plan approval and hold an on-site meeting with association officials and residents.

The visit marked the first field outing of the Gangnam Reconstruction Rapid Harmony Task Force — known by its Korean acronym "Sinhwa TF" — established to accelerate reconstruction projects as a key campaign pledge of the ninth directly elected district administration. Kim, who leads the task force as its director, visited the site to review the project's progress and hear residents' concerns.

Eunma Apartment applied for the project implementation plan approval on May 22. After consultations with roughly 80 relevant departments and agencies and a public review process, it received approval 33 days ahead of the statutory 60-day deadline.

The on-site delivery was meant to go beyond a simple handover of documents — to celebrate a new chapter in the project alongside residents and signal the district's commitment to continuing swift, field-centered administration.

At the meeting, held in a celebratory atmosphere following the approval, participants exchanged views on upcoming steps including the management and disposal plan and resident relocation, and discussed the support needed to keep the project moving. Association officials and residents warmly welcomed the mayor's personal visit and expressed hope that active administrative support would continue.

The district plans to use the task force to regularly monitor the progress of major reconstruction sites. Matters requiring coordination with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and other agencies will be handled directly by the district mayor to keep projects on track. Through these efforts, the district aims to cut approval and permitting timelines by more than 30 percent and advance the schedules of delayed projects by at least two years.

"Reconstruction is a field problem that cannot be solved by desk reports alone," Kim said. "Since I am leading the task force myself, I will visit project sites, listen to residents and see things through to the end." He added, "Gangnam's reconstruction must move forward with both speed and unity. We will put the Sinhwa TF into operation and deliver results for our residents."
