Champion Islam Makhachev set to defend title against Ian Machado Garry

A title fight between dominant UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev (34, Russia) and No. 1-ranked contender Ian Machado Garry (28, Ireland) has been confirmed.

UFC 330: Makhachev vs. Machado Garry is scheduled for Aug. 15 (local time) at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In Korea, the Fight Pass undercard begins at 6 a.m. on Aug. 16, followed by the main undercard at 8 a.m. and the main card at 10 a.m.

Makhachev (28-1) returns to the octagon determined to deliver another dominant performance. The Dagestani standout has cemented his place as one of the greatest fighters in history, defeating elite champions including Alexander Volkanovski (twice), Charles Oliveira and Jack Della Maddalena to claim titles in both the lightweight and welterweight divisions. He now steps in for his first welterweight title defense against Machado Garry, looking to further burnish his legacy.

Machado Garry (17-1) is hunting a victory that would shock the world. Riding a three-fight winning streak, he has made a name for himself at welterweight with impressive wins over Belal Muhammad, Carlos Prates and Michael Page. His goal is to dethrone Makhachev and claim the title in a new division.

The UFC has recently seen a string of upsets in which dominant champions, heavily favored heading into their title defenses, have fallen. Middleweight champion Hamzat Chimaev lost by decision to Sean Strickland, and lightweight champion Ilia Topuria was stopped by TKO at the end of round four by Justin Gaethje. Garry is signaling another upset could be on the way, making the outcome one to watch.

In the co-main event, UFC strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern (33, United States/Brazil) will make her first title defense against No. 5-ranked contender Gillian Robertson (31, Canada).

Dern (16-5) enters the octagon for the first time as champion. An eight-year octagon veteran, she has established herself as a strawweight force with wins over Virna Jandiroba, Amanda Ribas and Lupita Godinez. She now looks to make a successful first defense against Robertson.

Robertson (17-8) has earned the biggest opportunity of her career. A standout from "The Ultimate Fighter," she has grown into a seasoned veteran with victories over top-ranked opponents including Amanda Lemos, Marina Rodriguez and Luana Pinheiro.
