Yeongjong-Sindo Peace Road to open July 14, linking islands by land for first time in half a century

The islands of Sindo, Sido and Modo in Incheon's Ongjin-gun, previously accessible only by ferry, will be connected to the mainland road network starting July 14.

Incheon city will officially open the Yeongjong-Sindo Peace Road, linking Yeongjongdo and Sindo, marking a major shift in travel conditions for island residents.

The city announced Friday that the road will be fully open to traffic from 2 p.m. that day.

The Yeongjong-Sindo Peace Road stretches 3.26 kilometers and is 13.5 meters wide, with two lanes of traffic.

The road also includes a combined pedestrian and bicycle path, allowing cyclists and walkers to use the route alongside vehicles.

There will be no toll. A speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour applies on the bridge section for safety reasons.

Both passenger cars and motorcycles are permitted, which the city expects will significantly improve everyday transportation for residents.

Most significantly, residents of Sindo, Sido and Modo will no longer need to plan their movements around ferry schedules — they will be free to travel to and from the mainland around the clock.

The road is also expected to benefit local tourism. Incheon city anticipates that improved access to both Yeongjong International City and the three islands will help revitalize local businesses by drawing more tourists to the area.

An opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on July 14 at a rest park near the Sindo access point in Ongjin-gun.
