Jejuair, Jeju SK FC team up for coastal cleanup plogging event

Jejuair announced Thursday that it had teamed up with professional soccer club Jeju SK FC to hold a marine cleanup plogging event Wednesday at Nonjitmul Beach in Seogwipo, Jeju Island.

About 50 participants — including cabin crew members from Jejuair's eco-volunteer unit Ecomeo and Jeju SK FC players and coaching staff — collected litter scattered along the beach and its surroundings. The group gathered more than 15 bags of marine waste, contributing to the preservation of the local coastal ecosystem.

Jejuair has carried out community service activities to protect Jeju Island's coastal environment since 2018. In 2021, its cabin crew members voluntarily formed Ecomeo, an environmental volunteer group that now conducts regular marine cleanup activities along major coastal areas including Jeju and Busan.

Ahead of the plogging event, Jejuair held an in-person aviation safety education session for Jeju SK FC's youth players on June 29. The program taught young players — many of whom have limited flying experience — about in-flight safety rules and how to respond properly in emergency situations, with the aim of raising aviation safety awareness.

Jejuair and Jeju SK FC have been collaborating on sports marketing and community initiatives since signing an MOU in 2024. The two organizations have pursued ESG (environmental, social and governance) activities centered on environmental protection and a culture of safety, working alongside the local community.

"This activity with Jeju SK FC is especially meaningful as a shared commitment to our community and the environment," a Jejuair official said. "We will continue to expand our ESG efforts to help build a sustainable local community."

Meanwhile, Jejuair has also been working to improve conditions for its ground staff. Chief Executive Kim Yi-bae and other senior executives recently delivered cooling accessories — including functional arm sleeves and masks made from heat-dissipating materials — to maintenance workers stationed outdoors at Gimpo International Airport and Incheon International Airport to help prevent heat-related illness.
