Public library completed inside Cheonwang Station Moaelga Treview apartment complex, with opening programs including exhibitions, hands-on activities and special lectures
Guro-gu held an opening ceremony for the Guro Cheonwang Library on Wednesday and launched a trial operation period running through Aug. 30.
The Guro Cheonwang Library is a public library built inside the Cheonwang Station Moaelga Treview apartment complex (104-dong, floors 1–2, 1165 Ori-ro), with a total floor area of 1,459 square meters. The first floor houses a children's reading room, a creative play room and a nursing room, while the second floor offers a general reading room, a humanities and arts room, a multimedia room and a meeting room — making it a multipurpose cultural space accessible to visitors of all ages, from infants to adults.
The opening ceremony on Wednesday drew about 70 attendees, including Guro-gu District Mayor Jang In-hong, National Assembly lawmakers, Seoul city and district council members, and local residents. The event opened with a pre-ceremony jazz band performance, followed by a progress report, welcome remarks and congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting and a facility tour.
That day's ceremony also featured resident participation programs — including a "Build Everyone's Bookshelf" activity, a "Mission: Find the Book Title Letters" scavenger hunt, an opening commemorative photo event and a Dubai Chewy Cookie giveaway — alongside original artwork exhibitions, book curation displays and a humanities and arts specialty book exhibition set up throughout the library, all running through August.
On Friday, the library plans to offer a library membership card pocket decorating workshop for children, as well as a special lecture titled "Where Writing Meets Art" for teenagers and adults, exploring the connections between humanities and the arts through shared reflection and dialogue.
"The Guro Cheonwang Library is a cultural space woven into everyday life where anyone can feel at ease, and a multipurpose cultural hub for reading, learning and communication," District Mayor Jang said. "We will continue to run a wide range of reading and cultural programs so that it can establish itself as a landmark space for the community."
Meanwhile, Guro-gu plans to gather feedback from library users during the trial period, review overall operations and open the library for full service from Sept. 1.
