K-Football Innovation Committee to launch Monday with Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo, Park Joo-ho

South Korea is launching a new body dedicated to reforming its football program.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Thursday that the K-Football Innovation Committee will hold its inaugural meeting Monday at the Olympic Parktel in Songpa-gu, Seoul, co-chaired by Culture Minister Choi Hwi-young and Park Ji-sung, a member of a FIFA subcommittee.

The committee will include co-chairs Choi and Park alongside football figures such as Lee Young-pyo, a KBS commentator, and Park Joo-ho, a tvN Sports commentator, as well as sports community representatives and experts — among them Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min, Korea Football Association Executive Director Kim Seung-hee, Korea Professional Football League Secretary-General Jo Yeon-sang, attorney Yoo Young-geun and Pukyong National University professor Kim Dae-hee.

The committee will take up major challenges facing Korean football's long-term competitiveness, including governance reform, youth player development and the introduction of advanced technology systems — responding to calls for change that gained momentum following the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America.

Minister Choi has recently held a series of meetings with football officials and experts to build consensus around these goals.

"Through this innovation committee, we will bring together the many ideas that have been discussed on the ground, jointly map out the direction South Korean football should take, and chart a future in which the sport can continue to grow," Park said.

Choi said the committee would operate for a limited period and conduct comprehensive discussions on key issues. "We will provide strong support so that a vision for South Korean football can be established and carried out on the ground, centered on trusted figures from the football community," he said.
