KB Financial has narrowed its next chairman candidates to six, including incumbent Chairman Yang Jong-hee.
The KB Financial chairman candidate recommendation committee met Thursday afternoon and confirmed a shortlist of six candidates — four internal and two external — for the position.
The internal candidates are KB Financial Chairman Yang Jong-hee, KB Financial division heads Lee Jae-geun and Lee Chang-kwon, and Kookmin Bank President Lee Hwan-ju, listed in Korean alphabetical order. The two external candidates are Kwon Gwang-seok, former president of Woori Bank, and one person who requested anonymity.
The committee will conduct a first-round interview on Aug. 27 and then trim the shortlist to three candidates. A second, in-depth interview with those three is scheduled for Sept. 11, after which the committee will confirm a single final candidate.
Committee chair Jo Hwa-jun said the panel would "continue to work to ensure that the best CEO — one who meets the trust of shareholders and customers — is selected through a transparent and objective candidate verification and evaluation process."
The committee launched the management succession process for the next chairman on June 2. If the final candidate passes the qualification review required under relevant regulations, the committee and board of directors will proceed with a formal recommendation on Oct. 2, followed by an extraordinary shareholders meeting in November to officially appoint the new chairman.
