Yeungjin University launches overseas AI training program in Malaysia

Yeungjin University's AI Innovation Convergence College Project team, led by professor Kim Jong-gyu, held a launch ceremony Thursday for its 2026 Global AI Talent Development Overseas Training program, marking the official start of the initiative.

Thirty students from the computer information and AI computer security departments will take part in the three-week program, running through July 25, at the UTMSPACE Johor Bahru Campus — a subsidiary educational institution of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) — where they will undergo intensive AI coursework and project work.

The program is a global academic exchange initiative that applies an outstanding educational model developed among consortium universities under the Ministry of Education's Advanced Field Innovation Convergence University Project (AI track) to an overseas curriculum.

Participating students will complete a curriculum based on the "AI Hackathon" educational model developed by Jeonju University, the lead institution of the consortium.

While abroad, students will attend more than 20 hours of intensive project-based classes per week and work on team AI problem-solving assignments to build practical AI development skills.

Oh Jae-gwang, a computer information professor leading the program, said the combination of Jeonju University's strong AI education expertise and UTM's educational infrastructure was expected to produce significant growth for students. "We will run a safe and substantive training program so that students can develop into AI professionals equipped with both a global mindset and practical skills," he said.
