Cheongsong-gun selected for 2027 vulnerable-area living conditions improvement project

Cheongsong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Monday that two districts within the county had been selected in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' open call for its 2027 vulnerable-area living conditions improvement project.

The project aims to comprehensively upgrade areas closely tied to residents' daily lives — including housing, safety, sanitation and living infrastructure — to create a comfortable and safe residential environment.

Starting with the establishment of a basic plan next year, the project will run for four years through 2030, with total funding of 4.8 billion won, including about 3 billion won ($1.93 million) in national government funds.

One of the two selected sites, Singi 1-ri in Pacheon-myeon, has an urgent need for residential improvement: 68.6 percent of its housing stock is more than 30 years old, and 44.1 percent consists of slate-roofed structures.

The area also suffered the destruction of 38 homes in a large wildfire last year, making the restoration of basic living conditions all the more pressing.

The other selected site, Jisori in Andeok-myeon, has an aging housing rate of 69.6 percent for structures over 30 years old. Planned improvements there include upgrading traditional outdoor toilets, replacing slate roofs and repairing deteriorating homes.

"Being selected in this open call will serve as an important opportunity to improve residents' living conditions and breathe new vitality into the region," Cheongsong-gun Mayor Yun Gyeong-hui said. "We will do our utmost not only to create a safe and comfortable living environment through this project, but also to build a sustainable, livable rural community."
