Goyang city council member referred to prosecutors over ex-partner's private photos

A Goyang City Council member in Gyeonggi Province has been referred to prosecutors on charges of distributing private photos of a former partner and threatening him.

Police said Sunday that the Ilsandongbu Police Station referred council member A to the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors Office on July 1 on charges including threats.

A is accused of photographing private images from the mobile phone of B, a Seoul district council member she had been in a relationship with last year, distributing the photos to acquaintances, and threatening to "end his political career."

B filed a complaint against A in April on four counts — threats, defamation, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act. Police found sufficient grounds for two of the four charges before forwarding the case to the Goyang Branch.

A has denied the charges.
