The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City is holding a two-week "public food delivery app special discount event" from Sunday through July 19 to mark the city's historic inaugural launch and support local small businesses and consumer spending.
During the event, users who place and pay for orders of 15,000 won ($10) or more through the public online food delivery apps Ddaenggyeoyo, Wemakeprice O and Meokkkaebee will receive a 5,000-won discount coupon. A total of 40,000 coupons will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with each person limited to one coupon to allow as many residents as possible to benefit.
South Jeolla Province and Gwangju have operated public online food delivery platforms through a public-private partnership since 2021, aiming to ease delivery commission burdens on small businesses and invigorate the local economy. South Jeolla Province adopted Meokkkaebee, while Gwangju introduced Ddaenggyeoyo and Wemakeprice O.
The public apps charge intermediary commission rates of 1.5 to 2.0 percent — lower than those of private platforms — reducing the financial burden on small business owners. Users can also pay with local love gift certificates and Onnuri gift certificates, delivering a triple benefit: consumer discounts, a boost to local spending and a virtuous cycle for the regional economy.
"This discount coupon initiative was designed to celebrate the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City and provide benefits that residents can feel directly," said Ju Sun-seon, director of economic affairs. "We will do our best to breathe new life into the sluggish local economy and create an environment where small business owners and consumers can thrive together."
