Daegu City Council elects Im In-hwan as speaker for first half of 10th term

The Daegu City Council elected Im In-hwan, a lawmaker representing Jung-gu District 1, as speaker for the first half of the 10th council term at its 326th extraordinary session Monday.

Im ran unopposed and was elected unanimously in the first round of voting, with all 36 council members casting ballots after he delivered his policy address.

"I will always communicate with fellow lawmakers as I lead the council," Im said. "I will do my utmost to make the first half of the 10th council term the most exemplary and productive session possible."

The council also elected Lee Tae-son (Dalseo-gu District 4) as first vice speaker and Kim Jae-yong (Buk-gu District 5) as second vice speaker.

The council will complete its organizational setup by electing the chairs of five standing committees Tuesday and wrapping up with the election of the steering committee chair Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 34 of the 36 seats in the 10th Daegu City Council are held by People Power Party members, with the remaining two held by Democratic Party members elected through proportional representation.
