Gwangyang Steelworks has developed an AI-based rest supply request system to improve convenience for workers and streamline support operations during the peak summer heat season.
Gwangyang Steelworks, led by plant manager Ko Jae-yun, has developed an AI-based rest supply request system to prevent heat-related illness during the hottest months of the year.
The system automates the entire process — from submitting a rest supply request to approval and delivery notification — significantly improving convenience for workers on the floor.
Posco developed it as part of its AX (AI Transformation) strategy, focusing on eliminating friction in the previous request process and more precisely reflecting demand at each worksite.
Under the old system, workers had to fill out a designated form and email it individually to a coordinator, making it difficult to specify quantities, locations or other options flexibly.
The new system lets users enter detailed information for each item — including quantity, date and delivery location — improving both ease of input and verification.
Automatic notifications have also been added at each stage of the process, covering submission, approval and delivery completion. For bottled water, workers can now choose from options such as purified water or ice water.
The request procedure has also been simplified. Workers enter the items they need into the system, and once a coordinator confirms the submission, the request is approved and delivery details are communicated automatically.
Requesters can also modify or cancel their orders through the system until a coordinator processes them, allowing any changes to take effect immediately.
The streamlined procedure means workers can secure summer rest supplies more quickly than before.
AI automatically tallies request status by department, enabling coordinators to instantly identify any worksites where requests have been missed or contain errors, allowing for more targeted support tailored to on-site demand.
A range of supplies has been made available to help prevent heat-related illness. These include rest tents, windbreaks for tents, tables and chairs, as well as bottled water, ice boxes and hot-and-cold water dispensers.
"The introduction of a dedicated request system has strengthened worker convenience and on-site responsiveness," a Gwangyang Steelworks official said. "We will continue to provide support so that workers can carry out their duties safely and comfortably even during the hottest periods of the year."
