The Democratic Party of Korea on Wednesday expelled a party member who created and circulated a doctored image mocking the party's own lawmaker Lee Eon-ju.
Kang Jun-hyeon, the Democratic Party's chief spokesperson, told reporters at the National Assembly that the Supreme Council had decided to impose emergency disciplinary action against the individual. "The council recognized that a doctored image containing defamatory content targeting Rep. Lee had been posted online, damaging her honor and dignity, and decided to take emergency disciplinary action against the person who produced and distributed it," Kang said.
The party also plans to file a criminal complaint against the poster under the name of its public communications committee. Rep. Lee's office had earlier said it would pursue legal action over the incident.
