Keimyung College University students run global service-learning program in Mongolia

Keimyung College University ran its 2026 Global Service-Learning (GS-L) program at Mongen General School in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from June 27 to July 8, a 12-day, 10-night trip.

The volunteer team comprised 29 students from 11 departments and three supervisors, totaling 32 participants. Drawing on cross-disciplinary collaboration, the group carried out a range of service programs tailored to local needs.

Before departure, participants completed preparatory training covering cultural orientation, safety education, major-specific service program planning, mural design and cultural performance rehearsals. On the ground, they put their academic knowledge into practice through educational volunteering, health and hygiene instruction, environmental improvement activities and cultural exchange.

The educational sessions covered first aid, health education, taekwondo, K-beauty, K-food and K-pop, drawing an enthusiastic response from local students.

Gu Gwan-mo, a third-year emergency medical services student who led the volunteer delegation, said the experience was meaningful on two levels. "I felt the satisfaction of being able to help others through my major, and it was a precious time to learn the mindset of a global citizen who understands and respects different cultures," he said.

University President Park Seung-ho said he hoped students would build on the experience to grow into "glocal" talent capable of bridging local and global communities, and pledged to keep expanding major-based global social contribution activities.
