The Digital Asset Exchange Alliance (DAXA) and digital asset policy think tank MRI announced Friday they will hold a seminar titled "The United States' Digital Asset Hegemony Strategy and Korea's Response" at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
The seminar will examine the trajectory of US digital asset regulation, focusing on the GENIUS Act — the federal stablecoin bill — and the CLARITY Act, a comprehensive digital asset bill. Participants will also discuss the direction of Korea's basic digital asset law and the key challenges in designing a won-denominated stablecoin regime.
Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Min Byeong-deok and Park Min-gyu, who recently completed a US visit, will also attend. During the trip, they visited the White House, both chambers of Congress, financial regulators and major digital asset companies to assess the Donald Trump administration's digital asset policies and legislative developments.
In the first session, Han Seo-hee, an attorney at law firm Bae, Kim & Lee, will present on the legislative background and objectives of the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act, covering the key provisions of US stablecoin legislation and their implications for domestic legislative discussions.
MRI President Kim Jong-seung will then present on the key issues surrounding a won-denominated stablecoin, addressing questions of issuer structure, reserve assets and redemption rights in the design of a domestic stablecoin regime.
In the final session, the two lawmakers will discuss the policy trends they observed firsthand in the United States and the domestic legislative agenda for the second half of the year, under the theme "The US Digital Asset Strategy as Seen on the Ground and Korea's Challenges."
DAXA Chairman Oh Se-jin said the convergence of traditional finance and digital asset exchanges in Korea is accelerating, making regulatory reform to generate synergies between legacy finance and the digital asset market increasingly necessary. "I hope this seminar will offer meaningful insights for the development of Korea's digital asset market," he said.
