Trump warns NYT reporter of 'consequences' over health questions

President Donald Trump warned a reporter who raised questions about his health that she would face consequences, invoking a pending lawsuit against her outlet.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform Saturday to attack The New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, deliberately distorting her name. "Maggot Hagerman has made a living writing fake stories about me for 10 years," he wrote.

He then warned that she would "pay a big price" if "our multi-billion-dollar lawsuit against the failing New York Times goes to trial."

The name distortion appeared intentional — Trump combined "Maggie" with "maggot," an insult meaning a worm larva, to produce "Maggot Hagerman."

Haberman had earlier raised doubts about Trump's physical and cognitive health, citing examples such as his referring to the "Islamic Republic of Iran" as the "Islamic Republic of Japan."

Trump rebuffed the health questions, saying he had "just completed a perfect physical at Walter Reed," the national military medical center, and that he undergoes checkups every six months. He also said he had requested another cognitive test — claiming to be the only president to have done so three times — and that he had scored perfectly on all of them.

Trump, who turned 80 this year, was described as being in "excellent condition" across all categories — including heart, lungs and neurological function — in medical results the White House recently released. Some observers, however, have questioned his health, noting that he gained about 6 kilograms over the past year and that the White House did not disclose specific figures on cardiac function or vascular condition.
