Lionel Messi's World Cup farewell tour is not over yet.
Defending champion Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 in the 2026 FIFA North America World Cup quarterfinals at Kansas City Stadium in the United States on Sunday (local time).
Argentina took the lead through Alexis Mac Allister's goal in the 10th minute, but conceded an equalizer to Breel Embolo in the 72nd minute, sending the match into extra time.
The two sides were scoreless through the first half of extra time. Goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez in the 97th and 106th minutes then sent Argentina through to the semifinals with a 3-1 victory.
Messi did not score, falling short of extending his consecutive-goals record, but he added an assist to help secure the win and keep his World Cup farewell tour alive.
Argentina are set to face England in the semifinals on Thursday.
