Iran strikes US military facilities in Kuwait, Jordan in retaliation for American airstrikes

The United States and Iran have exchanged strikes over control of the Strait of Hormuz, escalating into armed conflict despite having signed an end-of-war MOU.

Iran launched a large-scale retaliatory assault targeting US military bases across the Middle East on Sunday in response to American airstrikes.

Iranian state media reported that the country's regular armed forces, operating alongside the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, struck US military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain. Iran warned that any further US action would trigger even harsher retaliation.

The IRGC said it destroyed a US command-and-control center and an MQ-9 drone hangar at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan using ballistic missiles.

In Kuwait, Iran said it struck a Patriot air defense battery, an ammunition depot and a radar facility using drones. The US Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters communications and radar facilities in Bahrain were also targeted in drone strikes.

Iran also fired multiple ballistic missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, targeting fighter jet maintenance facilities and a command-and-control center at the base.

Iran's state-run Press TV reported that the IRGC struck US aircraft carrier refueling and logistics supply facilities at the port of Duqm in Oman. It also said a second vessel that had violated regulations governing passage through the Strait of Hormuz was attacked and disabled.

Iranian military spokesperson Brig. Gen. Akrami Nia said the US must abide by the terms of the end-of-war MOU, adding that American interference aimed at entrenching unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz undermines security.

He added that Iran's armed forces would firmly defend the nation's sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iran said IRGC vessels fired warning shots at a ship that moved along an unauthorized route, saying it had attempted to transit through what Iran described as an illegal passage, and warned it would block the strait.

In response, US Central Command said the IRGC had attacked a Cyprus-flagged container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, and announced that it had deployed fighter jets, drones and precision-guided munitions to strike approximately 140 military targets inside Iran, including missile and drone bases.

It could not be confirmed whether the vessel mentioned by the US and the one cited by Iran were the same ship.
