55 Art Center, led by director Park Jae-yong, announced Monday it has organized a solo exhibition by sculptor Kim Heon-hui to mark the launch of the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju integrated special city.
The exhibition, titled "Transference: Nature Within," runs from Thursday through Wednesday at the Chungjang22 gallery, a cultural complex in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
The show explores how the vitality of the natural world merges with the inner emotional currents of human experience to find expression in art. Kim's signature works combine blue-toned human figures with organic structures evoking coral or tree branches, drawing viewers in with a mysterious, dreamlike atmosphere.
Through the concept of "transference," Kim visualizes the process by which the external natural world enters and takes root in the human interior. Working with materials including clay, wood and resin, she renders her figures with a gaze that is at once serene and intense — posing deep questions about the boundary between humanity and nature, and the essential life force hidden within us.
Admission is free.
Park, who organized the exhibition, said he hopes residents of the newly integrated South Jeolla Province-Gwangju special city will use the show at Chungjang22 — a hub for culture and the arts — as an opportunity for quiet reflection alongside the vivid artistic inspiration of midsummer.
