The city of Samcheok in Gangwon Province has signed a public-private "Dining Day mutual-growth agreement" with local mid-sized companies to revitalize the regional economy and restore neighborhood commercial districts.
A separate program run by Kangwon Land and four municipalities in coal-industry transition zones aims to boost the competitiveness of local businesses. This new agreement is a marketing cooperation campaign designed to get residents and travelers to spend money at local restaurants.
According to the city, Samcheok will provide administrative support and publicity for the Dining Day initiative, while Sampyo Cement will designate and run the event twice a month to encourage dining at local restaurants as part of its regional mutual-growth policy commitment.
The Samcheok Civic Organizations Council plans to promote the companies' community contribution activities and strengthen a cooperative framework for mutual development.
The signing ceremony, held Tuesday, was attended by Samcheok Mayor Park Sang-su, Sampyo Cement CEO Bae Dong-hwan, Samcheok Civic Organizations Council Chairman Yoo Jae-yong and 16 other officials. The group formalized the mutual-growth agreement and pledged to boost sales for small business owners and revive the city's struggling neighborhood commercial districts.
"I hope this agreement breathes new vitality into local commerce and serves as a catalyst for spreading a culture of local spending," Mayor Park said. "We will continue to pursue a variety of public-private cooperation projects to invigorate the regional economy."
