A man in his 80s was reported stranded on a tidal flat near the Mysterious Sea Road Experience Center in Gogun-myeon, Jindo-gun, South Jeolla Province, at around 4:49 p.m. Wednesday.
The man, identified only by the surname initial A, was found submerged in water and in cardiac arrest. Fire department personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He is believed to have been harvesting shellfish and other seafood with an acquaintance when the accident occurred.
The Korea Coast Guard is investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
