The National Badminton Championships, featuring top university and open-division players from across the country, will be held at Useul Gymnasium in Haenam-gun, South Jeolla Province, from Saturday to Aug. 11.
According to Haenam-gun on Thursday, the Korea Badminton Association is hosting the tournament, with the South Jeolla Province Badminton Association and the Haenam-gun Badminton Association serving as organizers. Some 64 teams and more than 1,000 athletes will compete in men's and women's team and individual events across both the university and open divisions.
The championships are one of the country's most prestigious badminton competitions, drawing high-level play each year and contributing to the development of the sport in South Korea.
With athletes representing university and professional club teams from provinces and cities across the country, each match is expected to deliver intense competition.
More than 11,000 people in total — including athletes, team officials and referees — are expected to visit Haenam-gun over the course of the event.
"We hope the athletes will showcase the skills they have honed and deliver high-quality matches," a county official said Thursday. "We will do our best to ensure the tournament concludes safely and successfully."
