Seasonal fruit worth 200 million won supports local economy
Supplier network underpins global after-sales parts chain of 3 million types
Hyundai Mobis said Monday it will deliver 10,000 watermelons worth 200 million won ($134,000) to more than 200 top-performing domestic after-sales parts suppliers nationwide. The gesture is intended to thank employees at partner companies for their commitment to on-time delivery and quality assurance during the summer heat.
Hyundai Mobis has held a seasonal fruit-sharing event every year since 2003 — now in its 24th year — as part of its efforts to grow alongside the suppliers that form the backbone of its after-sales parts supply chain. The company also purchases the watermelons from traditional markets and local farms near its suppliers, contributing to regional economic activity.
"We prepared this event to express our gratitude to supplier employees working hard on the ground amid sudden monsoon rains and extreme heat," said Jang Ho-young, head of purchasing at Hyundai Mobis. "We will continue to expand a wide range of activities so that a culture of mutual growth with our suppliers can take firm root."
Close collaboration with suppliers nationwide is essential to delivering after-sales parts quickly both at home and abroad. Hyundai Motor and Kia vehicles currently in operation worldwide number around 59 million, spanning more than 220 models, and the number of after-sales parts needed to service them reaches 3 million types.
Hyundai Mobis runs a range of partnership programs that go beyond one-time support, aimed at strengthening suppliers' competitiveness and fostering sustainable growth. These include financial assistance, technology cooperation, ESG (environmental, social and governance) capacity building, and talent recruitment support — initiatives designed to deliver tangible benefits to partner companies.
Over the past three years, Hyundai Mobis has provided a cumulative 156.2 billion won in technology development funding to help suppliers sharpen their technological edge, and the joint research efforts have yielded 861 patent applications.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Mobis continues to broaden its corporate social responsibility activities across multiple areas. In March, the company joined the Seoul Dobong Fire Station for a fire hydrant repainting volunteer event attended by about 100 employees and their families. On July 5, it hosted the "2026 Hyundai Mobis School Sports Club Archery Tournament" at Namseoul University in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
