Seoul Metropolitan Council Speaker Im Man-gyun visited the Magok Safety Experience Center in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, and the 2026 Seoul Career and Vocational Fair on Tuesday, inspecting student safety and career education programs firsthand and pledging to work alongside the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to support students' dreams and growth.
That morning, Im was joined by council members Jang Sang-gi, Go Chan-yang and Hong Jae-hui for a briefing on the center's operations. He then tried out exercises including gas-mask fitting, earthquake evacuation drills and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and observed children taking part in traffic safety and disaster preparedness activities.
The Magok Safety Experience Center was established in 2024 through an MOU among the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and Gangseo-gu. It currently runs 12 hands-on safety education programs for children, youth and Seoul residents covering natural disasters, fires and public health, among other topics.
"When it comes to safety accidents that can happen in everyday life, it is important to internalize how to respond through repeated education," Im said. "As the types of safety accidents and disasters are becoming more diverse, we must expand hands-on safety education while also working to identify new accident scenarios and diversify our programs."
That afternoon at 2 p.m., Im visited the 2026 Seoul Career and Vocational Fair at the Yangjae aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu. He toured career experience booths covering fields such as semiconductor technology, robotics engineering, forensic investigation and sports coaching alongside Seoul Superintendent of Education Jeong Geun-sik, then attended the opening ceremony.
Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, the Seoul Career and Vocational Fair ran for four days through Friday, featuring career aptitude testing and counseling, hands-on vocational experiences and career development lectures.
In his congratulatory remarks, Im said the era in which a single choice determined a person's lifelong career path was fading, giving way to a world that demands continuous learning and the willingness to take on new roles. "The Seoul Metropolitan Council will spare no effort in providing institutional and fiscal support so that students can dream bigger and realize their full potential," he said.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council said it will continue to work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on multiple fronts to help students grow into talent that will drive Seoul's future, in a safe and nurturing environment.
