US Vice President JD Vance announced Sunday that his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, had given birth to their fourth child.
"Usha and the baby are healthy and happy, and our kids are thrilled to meet their new sibling," Vance wrote on social media Sunday.
According to CNN, it is the first time a sitting vice president's wife has given birth while in office since 1870, when Vice President Schuyler Colfax's wife, Ellen Maria Colfax, did so — a gap of 156 years.
The Vance family, now six, plans to lease part of a multimillion-dollar property in Middleburg, an affluent rural community in northern Virginia, CNN reported.
Sources said Vance arranged the new residence because he wants his children to enjoy an ordinary life away from the rigid environment of Washington, D.C.
Vance will continue to reside at the official vice presidential residence on the grounds of the US Naval Observatory but is expected to stay in Middleburg from time to time, sources added.
