Following Jeju April 3 incident — a dedicated healing center for victims and bereaved families
A dedicated trauma healing center for victims and bereaved families of the Yeosu-Suncheon Oct. 19 Incident has opened in the Sindae district of Suncheon, providing psychological recovery support to those affected by the historical event.
The center operates under the Ministry of Interior and Safety and was established under the Act on the Establishment and Operation of the National Trauma Healing Center for State Violence Victims. Its mandate is to help survivors and their families recover from psychological trauma caused by state violence.
It follows two similar institutions — the National Trauma Healing Center for State Violence in Gwangju, dedicated to the May 18 Gwangju Uprising, and the National Jeju Trauma Healing Center for victims of the Jeju April 3 Incident.
The center is staffed by 16 employees, including a director and specialist healing personnel. The facility includes counseling rooms, office space, a lounge, program rooms and a physical therapy room.
"We will create a warm healing space to ease, even a little, the emotional burden that surviving victims and bereaved families have carried alone for so many years," said Ju Sun-seon, director of economic affairs at the South Jeolla-Gwangju integrated special city.
