Actor Yoo Yeon-seok, who paid about 3 billion won ($2.1 million) in back taxes, has had his appeal against the National Tax Service's assessment rejected by the Tax Tribunal.
The Tax Tribunal dismissed Yoo's petition seeking to overturn the 3 billion won tax assessment last month, Yonhap reported Wednesday.
His agency, Kingkong by Starship, said the matter "stemmed from a difference of opinion on the interpretation and application of tax law," adding that "not all related procedures have been concluded."
Last year, Yoo was notified of a roughly 7 billion won tax bill arising from his operation of a one-person corporation.
He filed a pre-assessment review, which recognized double taxation and reduced the final amount to around 3 billion won. Yoo paid the full sum before filing the tax tribunal petition challenging the National Tax Service's assessment.
Some observers have raised the possibility that Yoo could pursue administrative litigation.
The agency said it is "carefully reviewing the facts and legal issues, and will faithfully respond to necessary matters in accordance with the procedures set out under relevant laws and regulations," adding that "Yoo has faithfully fulfilled his tax obligations and will continue to approach related procedures with a sense of responsibility."
