Japanese adult film actor donates millions to earthquake relief — then faces online abuse

A well-known Japanese adult film actor drew online backlash after donating tens of millions of won to Kumamoto earthquake relief efforts, with some users calling it "money earned by selling her body."

Tano Yu, a prominent figure in Japan's adult film industry, recently wrote on social media that she had felt a heavy heart each time she heard news of the disaster. She said she had sent beverages, food, sanitary products and diapers with an acquaintance, hoping to be of even a small help.

She added that she had also donated 3 million yen ($19,000) through the Japanese Red Cross, and expressed her sincere hope that those affected would soon be able to return to an ordinary daily life where they could sleep soundly.

Her post drew many comments praising her generosity. Some users, however, also left critical remarks, calling the donation "money made by selling her body" and describing it as "dirty money."

In response, Tano said she had hoped that making the post public would encourage more people to offer support. "There is no reason for my support to be denied simply because of my profession," she said.
