Lee Yun-je, a Myongji University law professor and former deputy special prosecutor in the insurrection investigation, has joined the police investigation reform committee established in the wake of the "Jang Yun-gi case," which exposed signs of systematic cover-ups within the police.
The committee said Saturday that Lee was appointed as a member on Thursday.
A former prosecutor, Lee served as a deputy special prosecutor on the insurrection special counsel team that investigated the Dec. 3 emergency martial law crisis, and previously served on the Justice Ministry and Prosecution Reform Committee under the Moon Jae-in administration.
The committee is focusing its discussions on ways to address the structural problems in police investigations revealed by the Jang Yun-gi case, as well as measures to strengthen support for victims.
