Daegu's Dalseo-gu seeks candidates for district merit and honorary resident awards

Dalseo-gu in Daegu is accepting nominations for the 38th Proud District Resident Award and the 6th Honorary Resident designation through Oct. 23, the district office announced Sunday.

The Proud District Resident Award is open to residents who have lived in Dalseo-gu for at least three years. Nominations are accepted in three categories: local economic and social development, volunteer service and community giving, and education and cultural arts promotion.

However, for the local economic and social development category, individuals who have been economically active at a business located in Dalseo-gu for at least three years are also eligible.

The Honorary Resident designation, introduced in 2021, is awarded to Korean or foreign nationals who do not reside in Dalseo-gu but have contributed to the district's development.

Eligible candidates include those who have promoted exchanges, trade cooperation or local economic vitality, as well as exemplary workers who have contributed to their companies through outstanding skills and a dedicated work ethic.

Nominations may be submitted by heads of institutions, organizations or businesses. Honorary resident candidates may also be jointly nominated by 10 or more Dalseo-gu residents.

Nomination forms should be submitted to the general affairs division at the Dalseo-gu District Office or to any neighborhood administrative welfare center.

After reviewing nominees' public contributions, the district plans to select one recipient per category for the Proud District Resident Award — three in total — and up to three Honorary Residents. The awards will be presented at the Dalseo-gu Residents' Day ceremony on Dec. 22.

"We ask residents to show their interest and submit nominations so that the unsung contributors who have brought hope to our community can be more widely recognized," said Kim Yong-pan, head of the Dalseo-gu District Office.
