Forum to address color management of apartment complex facades, from design review to long-term upkeep
Daejeon is preparing a forum to explore ways to systematically manage the full process of color planning for apartment complex landscapes, from initial design review through long-term maintenance.
The city announced it will hold the 37th Daejeon Urban Landscape Forum on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the large conference room on the fifth floor of City Hall.
Held under the theme "From Urban Landscape Color Review to Management," the forum aims to gather broad input from experts in apartment landscape color management and housing management officials, and to build consensus on establishing practical management standards applicable in the field.
Apartment complexes have become a defining element of the urban landscape in recent years. However, calls for more systematic management have consistently grown as cases emerge where repainting work applies colors that differ from those approved in the original landscape review, highlighting gaps in long-term maintenance standards.
The forum will be divided into two sessions. In the first, Kim Ji-hye, chief of Leopl Design Research Institute, will present on "From Urban Landscape Color Review to Management," covering the current state and challenges of color management for apartment complexes and outlining a framework linking the review process through to ongoing maintenance.
The second session will bring together landscape committee members from the architecture and design fields, along with the Daejeon chapter president and the North Chungcheong Province chapter president of the Korea Housing Manager Association. They will discuss problems and improvements in the process spanning color planning, landscape review, post-completion repainting and maintenance, as well as directions for building an efficient management system and reforming the regulatory regime.
Discussions will center on practical challenges: post-completion repainting management, the roles of residents' representative councils and property managers, and the establishment of a sustainable color management system for apartment complexes. The goal is to identify effective approaches to managing apartment landscape colors.
"Apartment complexes are the urban landscape element that citizens encounter most closely in their daily lives, which makes systematic color management — from the planning stage through to maintenance — all the more important," a Daejeon city official said. "We hope this forum will serve as a meaningful occasion to share the right direction for managing apartment landscape colors and to exchange a wide range of views."
The 37th Daejeon Urban Landscape Forum is open to all residents.
