Moving on an auspicious day turns sinister in new Korean horror film

Korean horror film "Son Eomneun Nal" — about moving into a new home on a traditionally auspicious day — has wrapped principal photography and entered post-production.

The film centers on Ujin, played by Ahn Jae-hong, who moves into a new home on what is believed to be the luckiest day of the year, a day when evil spirits are said to be absent. When his wife Huiyeon, played by Ha Yun-kyung, begins showing strange symptoms, Ujin is drawn to Taeju, a shaman played by Byun Yo-han, who insists she must undergo a spiritual initiation. The story unfolds over a single day.

Director Heo Jeong helms the project. He built his reputation blending everyday horror with psychological thrills through films such as "Hide and Seek" (2013) and "Jangsan Range" (2017).

The film pairs the unsettling events of an ordinary moving day with the familiar Korean folk concept of a spirit-free auspicious day, promising audiences a tightly wound, reality-grounded suspense.

Byun plays Taeju, a gifted shaman and disciple of a master mudang, serving as the dramatic anchor of the film. After wrapping, Byun said the script made him feel challenged as an actor. "So many actors and crew members poured their energy into this together, so I hope audiences feel a wide range of emotions and have a great time watching it," he added.

Ahn, who plays Ujin, a pragmatic lawyer who only believes in what he can see, described the set as intense. "The entire crew channeled their energy into the film as one throughout the shoot," he said. "I think it will come together as a densely crafted work."

Ha, who plays Huiyeon — Ujin's wife and the figure at the center of the strange occurrences — said the experience was a joy. "Thanks to the wonderful actors, the director and the crew's thoughtfulness, I was able to enjoy every day of filming," she said. "I think this will be a film that stays with me for a long time."

A first-look still released alongside the wrap announcement shows a close-up of a calendar with the auspicious day circled in red, stoking curiosity. The image captures the familiar concept with an air of foreboding, hinting at a mysterious and unsettling atmosphere.

"Son Eomneun Nal" will reach audiences after completing post-production.
