People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok sharply criticized President Lee Jae Myung's real estate campaign pledges Monday, saying Lee had not kept "a single one" of them and had been "plotting fraud from the outset."
The remarks came as controversy over the government's tax reform package, announced Aug. 3, continued into Tuesday. Jang shared a poster from Lee's presidential campaign on his social media account Monday, highlighting the real estate promises Lee made during the race.
"This is not Photoshopped," Jang wrote alongside the image. "These are President Lee's actual campaign pledges from the last presidential election."
The poster features a photo of then-candidate Lee Jae Myung, ballot number one, with his fist raised, alongside his real estate campaign pledges. The slogans read: "Promise 1 to Seoul residents — cut real estate taxes and rapidly expand supply. Promise 2 — ease real estate lending regulations."
"He did the exact opposite of every single one," Jang said, adding that Lee "probably never had any intention of keeping them from the start." He continued: "It was deliberate fraud from the outset. He deceived the people to win the election."
Jang added that "public fury over real estate is exploding," calling the situation "a grand fraud against the people" that "the people will judge."
Earlier, at the PPP supreme council meeting, Jang criticized Lee further, saying the president "swiftly sold off his own home while throwing a tax bomb at the people." He added that the Lee administration "has already fallen from a government of popular sovereignty to a government that has abandoned the people."
