The Gangnam-gu Council, led by Speaker Lee Jae-jin, visited Suseo Police Station on Tuesday, where Station Chief Jeong Yeon-won and department heads briefed council members on key operations and priorities before a roundtable discussion on major local issues.
Speaker Lee, Operations Committee Chair Kang Hyeon-seop, Economy and Urban Affairs Committee Chair Song Yeong-gwang, Welfare and Culture Committee Chair Oh On-nuri, and Assembly member Kim Ji-ung attended the visit and meeting.
The council members received a briefing on the public safety situation across the station's jurisdiction and held in-depth discussions on strengthening policing capacity and creating a safer environment for residents.
Suseo Police Station currently covers 15 of Gangnam-gu's 22 dong, including parts of Daechi-dong and Yeoksam-dong, as well as Gaepo-dong, Ilwon-dong, Suseo-dong and Segok-dong. The varied character of the jurisdiction — spanning residential neighborhoods, dense commercial districts and the Daechi-dong hagwon belt — demands tailored policing, and demand for public safety services has been rising steadily with the opening of the Suseo GTX station and ongoing development of the Suseo transit-oriented area.
To meet that demand, Suseo Police Station has partnered with community organizations including SH and Shinhan Bank on crime-prevention initiatives and operates an integrated consultative body bringing together police, private-sector actors and public institutions. In the Daechi-dong hagwon district, the station has also designated no-go zones for personal mobility devices to protect residents' safety.
After the visit, Speaker Lee said close cooperation between the community and police is more important than ever in building a tight safety net that residents can rely on as the nature of crime continues to evolve. "The Gangnam-gu Council will spare no administrative, institutional or budgetary support so that Suseo Police Station can focus on community-centered public safety work tailored to the distinct character of our neighborhoods — from the Daechi-dong hagwon district to large residential complexes," he said.
