Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Cho Yu-jin visited the homes of elderly residents living alone who are vulnerable to extreme heat Tuesday afternoon, checking on their well-being and reviewing heat-response measures.
Cho inspected the residential environments of the elderly residents, confirming that cooling appliances were working and explaining guidelines for coping with the heat and preventing heat-related illness. She also checked whether residents were experiencing any difficulties with daily life during the summer.
The district has significantly expanded heat-mitigation facilities in residential areas to protect residents' health, adding 33 shade structures in major parks, establishing smart cooling shelters and designating new cooling centers.
"The health of vulnerable groups, including the elderly, is of utmost importance during prolonged heat waves," Cho said. "We will operate cooling centers and other heat-mitigation facilities without gaps so that all residents can stay healthy through the summer heat."
