Hanmi Pharm's Paltan Smart Plant posts sharp gains in supply stability, quality metrics

Hanmi Pharm's Paltan Smart Plant, the company's central production hub for synthetic pharmaceuticals, posted significant year-on-year improvements across key supply stability and quality management indicators in the first half of this year.

Hanmi Pharm said Thursday that an analysis of the plant's major manufacturing and quality control metrics for the first half showed stockouts of its own products lasting more than five days fell roughly 57 percent compared with the same period last year. Stockouts of the same duration for contract manufacturing organization items also dropped about 48 percent year-on-year, demonstrating greater stability in the company's production and supply management systems.

Quality and equipment performance indicators also improved markedly. Out-of-specification and out-of-trend incidents fell roughly 39 percent year-on-year, while equipment breakdown time was cut by about 33 percent, boosting overall manufacturing efficiency.

Measured against the Quality Metrics standard of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, the Paltan Smart Plant maintains a deviation rate well below the solid oral dosage industry average of 12 to 14 percent. Hanmi Pharm said it has continued to pursue systematic quality metric management, root-cause analysis of deviations, and recurrence-prevention activities.

The company is also strengthening data-driven manufacturing management and on-site improvement activities in line with recommendations from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on Quality by Design and the digitalization of manufacturing processes. A productivity improvement task force launched in June will serve as the focal point for tightly linking headquarters and plant operations as the company accelerates efforts to raise manufacturing competitiveness in the second half.

The improvements carry significant medical and industrial weight, as the plant's advanced automation processes and data management systems have worked in synergy with its on-site quality control framework to produce tangible reductions in pharmaceutical supply imbalances.

"The first-half results are the fruit of every employee's collective effort to ensure a stable supply of medicines," Hanmi Pharm Chief Executive Hwang Sang-yeon said. "In the second half, we will achieve even more meaningful gains across overall productivity indicators, including Right First Time."
