Wonju officially asked the Ministry of Planning and Budget on Thursday to support construction of an eco-friendly digital healthcare industry support center as part of the city's push to develop future industries.
The city urged the ministry to ensure that relevant national funding is included in the government's budget proposal and in the National Assembly's subsequent budget deliberations, as Wonju works to build a digital healthcare industry ecosystem linked to information and communications technology.
Wonju's deputy mayor, fiscal affairs director and budget division chief met with Kim Geon-min, head of the fund management innovation division at the ministry's budget bureau, to outline key pending projects aimed at securing the region's future growth and to request active attention and support.
The city also asked for cooperation in ensuring that four local road routes are reflected in the final plan, including a new four-lane section between Heungup and Jijeong included in the sixth national and local road construction plan. The project covers a total length of 18.8 kilometers and requires 368.7 billion won ($261 million) in national funding to expand road infrastructure.
Wonju has operated an on-site National Assembly liaison system since last August, using it to quickly track developments at the Assembly and central government ministries, maintain close cooperation and strengthen its strategic response to securing national funding and resolving local issues.
A senior official said the projects would benefit not only the region's future growth and residents' daily lives but the public at large.
