Hansol Papertech holds heat illness prevention session for 60 elderly residents in Damyang

Hansol Papertech, a corrugated base paper manufacturer and affiliate of Hansol Group, said Tuesday it held a heat illness prevention session for about 60 elderly residents of Nambumaeul village in Damyang-gun, South Jeolla Province.

The company organized the session at the village community center in response to the growing risk of heat illness among older adults as a prolonged heat wave continues.

A certified occupational health and safety instructor led the session, explaining the symptoms of major heat-related conditions — including heatstroke and heat exhaustion — and demonstrating emergency response procedures. The instructor also covered recommended behaviors during extreme heat and daily health practices residents can adopt.

Hansol Papertech distributed heat wave prevention kits to participants, each containing a cooling towel, a cooling neck wrap and a portable fan.

Older adults can face greater difficulty regulating body temperature and responding to health changes during heat waves, prompting local governments, businesses and community organizations to step up efforts such as operating cooling centers and distributing preventive supplies.

Lee Don-eung, head of the Nambumaeul senior association, said the session was a great help. "There has been a lot of worry lately about heat illness incidents, and the education Hansol Papertech prepared was very helpful," he said.

A Hansol Papertech official said preparing older residents for heat illness is becoming increasingly important as the heat wave persists. "We will continue to pursue community service activities that provide real, practical help to local residents and contribute to building a healthier community," the official said.
